SOFTBALL fhe defence rests Masters has successfully defended its Chilliwack Softball Association Women's Division championship. Masters, after finishing the regular season in first place by one point over Fraser Valley, met the Merchants again to decide the championship. Masters and Merchants battled each other all season, and it was the same old thing Thursday, at Townsend Park. The game was scoreless through three innings, with both Masters' pitcher Diana Jex and Lynn Roth of the Merchants' getting batters by throwing lots of heat.

Masters finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, taking advantage of three Fraser Valley errors. Janice Jacobs doubled, and Trudy Hall followed up with a single, to get Roth in trouble. Then the Merchants defence caved in. Jacobs, Hall, and Patsy Graham all came around to score two of the runs a result of errors and Masters built up a 3-0 lead. From there, the game was in the hands of Jex, who struck out five batters.

SPORTS REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK Many winning ways The Chilliwack Exhibition Presents The shape of things to come Ah, life sure is great when you win. And there have been many triumphs as of late, I'm still perfect The Chilliwack Chiefs held another alumni weekend, which included a hockey game Friday and golf tourna-m Saturday at Cultus Lake.

I had the pleasure of drafting, and coaching, the Black Team, along with Kasey Dale CORY to retire with a perfect record. We Snafu-ed 'em It's time to seal-up the Advil bottle, and pack up the Rolaids, until next season. Another slow-pitch season came to an end for many players last weekend. At Sardis Sportsfield, my team, Snafu, successfully defended its Wildlife Slow-pitch League regular season and playoff titles. We won five of six games over the weekend, giving coach Ron 'Red Shoes' another trophy to add to his baseball shrine.

Ron was espe-ically pleased with the outcome, had his car stolen and had to borrow a left-handed glove, the beer, as always, was tasting good, and Jack showed up. Until next Petra-fied That's exactly how Petra Wykpis felt when she opened up the Progress a few weeks back, saw her team picture, but didn't see her name. Petra's U13 Strikers soccer squad won a provincial title, but Petra's name was mistakenly omitted from the team picture. "Petra was one of our top players," said head coach Ernie Tribe upon discovering the om-mission. "She was our main person back on defence.

was our MVP." Petra, wear that gold medal proudly. You deserve it. Don't miss the RCMP Musical Ride Ipj, 7pm Sommers of RadioMAX and Lawrence Heinen of B.C. Hockey Now. Our counterparts Chiefs' play-by-play broadcaster Barry Douglas, Toby Gorman of the Times, and Chilliwack Mayor Clint Hames, proved they know very little about the sport.

With Hames successfully bribing the officials, the White Team held a 10-7 advantage late in the third-period. But the officials soon recognized fair play, and our guys came through in the clutch, scoring four unanswered goals for an 11-10 victory. This coaching thing is cool. I also teamed up with Russ Ullyot to win the alumni game three years ago. It may be time and Ticket lm Ocrft at Th iiwacK rrogre fr Jed LcLdonly 1 Sorry, no chej 824-8191 For more infor!
