Anglican congregations will be actively encouraging all members to reach out with invitations for others to experience Anglican worship during the month of September. The church hopes this 'Invitation Focus' will reach a growing segment of the Fraser Valley population, particularly 'baby boomers', who are seeking a return to community involvement, family values and roots in the church. A survey carried out recently by The Baby Boomer Report, a newsletter which monitors the baby boomer generation, describes young adults 'returning in droves to religious institutions, seeking to reestablish their own roots and to give their children moral stability." Peter Turner, who chairs the Anglican task force responsible for Invitation Focus, says the program is not a church membership drive. "Our goal is to remind existing church members of the need to share what they find valuable about their faith and church involvement on an on-going basis," he says. Invitation Focus is just one component of the Anglican Church's effort to reach out to the community.

But that won't stop us from writing about them too. Under ideal conditions African Violets will bloom almost continuously. Their most important condition is light. 14 hours of bright light a day is required to maintain bloom. This means that some form of bright artificial light is necessary during short days in winter, such as fluorescent tubes.

Maintaining air temperature above 60 degrees and providing high humidity are next in importance. This is why Violets often do so well on a kitchen window above the sink. Then African Violets need fertilizer to keep blooming and there are many on the market that are specific for them. Always water them thoroughly when dry, using lukewarm water, and don't water again until dry. They don't like wet feet.

If you have any questions about African Violets or any house plants, please feel free to call or drop in. Searching the apartment he found precisely what he needed on the refrigerator door was a red decal with a bulging white that told him a "Vial of Life" was inside. A quick glance at the vial's contents revealed that the woman suffered from diabetes. Suspecting an insulin reaction, Weir gave her a glass of sweetened orange juice.

"If I hadn't know that she was diabetic, I would never have given her anything by mouth," Weir explained. "But with the information in the vial, I could take action right away." Weir was thrilled to see a Vial of Life make the difference. He has been a prime mover behind the program that has put vials in 100,000 British Columbia fridges during the past six months and eventually aims to reach every household (about 875,000 more) in the province. Ambulance drivers think the vial can literally make the difference between life and death, but they're grateful for it even in cases when it doesn't. As driver Ross Halloway puts it: "People are in pain.

They're hostile and resent it when you ask them for numbers instead of taking them to the hospital." The Vial of life takes at least some of the stress out of distress.
