The Chilliwack Sox Colt AAA baseball pitcher threw a two-hit shutout to lead his team to a 5-0 victory in Teichrob gave up just two hits in seven innings, striking out six and walking only one. Chilliwack scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and added two more in seventh. Seven hits, combined with two successful squeeze plays and a steal of home scored the runs. Brian Fehlauer singled and doubled, collected one run batted in and scored one run with a steal of home.

Other base hits were an RBI-single by Susumu Oshiyama, a double by Otis Jasper, and singles by Matt Penner, Sean Wicker and Teichrob. With the victory, Chilliwack improved its season record to 1 1 wins and eight losses, entrenched in third place in the Evergreen Colt AAA Baseball League. The team plays its final two regular season games tomorrow (Saturday), a double header against the Burnaby Reds in Burnaby. Three runs in the fourth inning broke open a 3-3 ball game, with the Breakers taking a commanding 11-3 lead with a five-run fifth inning. Also garnering awards at the tournament were sportsmanlike teams from each division. They included Paller Farms (A Division), O'Connor Brews (B Division), Annies Buds (C Division) and Missfits (D Division). Youth soccer tryouts The Chilliwack Soceer Club is still on the look-out for youth players.

The Under-14 rep team is in the process of putting together a tryout camp. It is open to boys born Aug. 1, 1979 to July 31, 1980. Interested persons should contact Keith Kennedy at 795-6207. The Under-12 rep team will 6e holding try outs this month and early next month.

It is open to boys born Aug. 1, 1981 to July 31, 1982. Interseted persons should be in attendance at Little Mountain Elementary at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (June 17). Other days for trials are June 24 and July 8.

Mosquito baseball champions The Chilliwack Progress Mosquito Tier I baseball team were champions this past weekend in Kamloops, capturing the title trophy in the annual invitational Mosquito tournament. Players from the winning Progress baseball team include Tyler Buck, Colin Burritt, Ricky Dalkeith, Andrew Gadsden, Robert Hockley, Dale Hooge, Andrew Iain Lennie, Ashley Mucha, Troy Nunemaker, Kiyomi Parsons, Brent Poole, coach Dale Hockley and assistant-coach Peter Buck. Football registration Chilliwack Bantam-age football team in the Pacific Coast Football League is looking for players. The club, which caters to players 13 and 14 years old, will hold a registration at Cottonwood Mall on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Women's and an Under-19 girls field hockey made the trek to Simi Valley May 23-25 for an international tournament.

The best finish came from the Under-19 team which finished fifth in its 12-team event, winning two. games, losing two games and tying one. The squad was led by Chilliwack Senior Secondary players Ashley Nicoll, six goals in five games, and classmate Sherry Victor, three goals. For the women, Barb Kroeker said, "It was a lesson on how to play the game." The squad won one, tied one and lost two. Opening against some tough university competition, the Chilliwack team lost 4-0 to Berkley Alumni and 8-0 to Stanford Alumni.

The local side then played two teams from Los Angeles, tying 0-0 and winning 1-0. Back at home, Victory and Kyla Thornton were being named to the provincial Under-18 field hockey team.
