Sport Stars Canada Select: Chilliwack's Nancy Kouwenhoven will dress for her second Rugby International game on Aug. 7 in Saranac Lake, New York, against the U.S. National squad.

Kouwenhoven was named as a starting fullback after a national camp held May 29, in Regina, Sask. Kouwenhoven played the past season with PoCoMo RFC of Port Co-quitlam and is one of only two B.C. women selected to the club, which is rounded out with nine players from Alberta, two from Saskatchewan, four from Manitoba and four from Quebec. McRaes Ride Again: The B.C. Summer games will once again feature two Chilliwack riders in the Western Games competition.

Jo-Anne McRae of Rosedale and Shannon McRae of Sardis will represent Zone 3, which includes communities from White Rock to Hope, at Oak Harbour July 28-30. Games competitions include barrels, pole bending, stakes and keyhole riding. Raiders Pirate Award: Chilliwack Auto Sales Omen Auto Raiders went undefeated and captured the championship trophy at the Agassiz Recreational Softball Tournament on the weekend. The Raiders, a Div. 3 club in the Chilliwack Men's Softball League, posted a 4-0 record, including a 10-2 championship game win over Sas-quatch Inn on Sunday.

In round robin play in the four team event, the Raiders defeated Pete's Sports 8-3, Sasquatch Inn 2-1 and Wee Lepruchan 9-6, all are from Agassiz. Raiders' Sam Rooney was named the tournament's top pitcher. Annie's Slow Pitch: For three seperate teams the Earthquake Annie's slow pitch 'triple five' mid-season tournament, Saturday and Sunday, proved to be a success. The three division tournament saw Aztec Warriors take the top-5 division with a perfect 4-0 record. Save-on-foods Sluggers finished second with a 3-1 record.

The most sportsmanlike team was the Chilliwack Rugby Club. In the mid-5 division, Dirty Dozen claimed the championship trophy, with O'Connor Brews in second spot. The most sportsmanlike team was a tie selection, CHWK All-stars and O'Connor. In the low-5 division, Longfellow Furniture took top honors and McGaw Empress finished runner-up. The most sportsmanlike team award went to Super Save Optical.

Barager Takes Hipwell: Val Barager came away the big winner of the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club women's Hipwell tournament, held June 6-7. Barager toured the course in 178, seven strokes better than second place finishers Ester Wientjes and Kathy Peterson. On the net side, Betty Fergusson, at 145, was three shots better than Grace Malpas, 148, and six shots ahead of Mary Duchak, 151. Rec Men's Tournament: The 16-team Chilliwack Men's Recreational Softball Tournament is on this Friday through Sunday (June 17-19). The tournament features eight Div.

2 teams and six Div. 3 teams from the Chilliwack Men's Softball League and two teams from the Engineer's Softball League. All games will be held at Monarch and Fraser Parks. Friday's opening night draw features Yarrow Wood versus Radio Shack and CFB Royals vs Chilliwack Auto Sales Omen Auto Raiders starting at 6 p.m. Fraser Carpets vs California Customs and Cascade Industrial Supply vs Friendly Mike's at Jesperson's Brake Muffler vs Pioneer Building Supply and Cheam Sports Midgets vs Fraser Valley Auto Body at 9 p.m..

Opening round games conclude Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., with Gold's Gym vs Transmission and Annie's Juniors vs Apex Neon Signs United. Link Gaetz, a 6-foot, 4-inch, 215-pound defenceman, who last year played with the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League was selected by the Minnesota North Stars in the second round, 40th over-all. Gaetz, 19, joins two other Chilliwack Minor Hockey products who have been selected in the past three drafts. Dave Archibald was selected sixth over-all in the 1987 NHL draft by the North Stars.

In 1986, Jamie Nicolls, went in the second round, 42nd over-all to the Edmonton Oilers.
