B4 THE CHILLIWACK PROGRESS, Wednesday, August 5, 1987 InlyDDttimig iregyDattioims fiw 987-88 released Spartans seeking talent for new season resulting from mild winter conditions; Shorter mule deer seasons and changes to elk seasons in parts of Region 7 (Omineca-Peace). "These are just a sampling of some of the more striking changes," Strachan said. "The message to hunters is clear: for the sake of conservation and to ensure you stay within the law, you must know and abide by the regulations." For further information on the 1987-88 hunting and trapping regulations, contact Jack Bone, 387-9790, or Elaine Dyment, 387-9788, in Victoria, or any regional office of the Ministry of Environment and Parks. Chilliwack Spartans Swim Club have planned two meetings for anyone interested in more information about competitive swimming during the school months. The meetings will be held at the Chilliwack YM-YWCA at 8 p.m.

on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and at Cheam Recreation Centre in Vedder Crossing at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The Spartan swim club is a community-wide, youth athletic organization "dedicated to excellence in com-petitve swimming and to the educational and fitness opportunities that training and competition can offer," a spokesman said.

The club operates all year long with competitive training from September through June or July, with "maintenance training" for advanced swimmers in August. "The Spartans is the only club in the mid- or upper-Fraser Valley dedicated to providing a program capable of developing world class swimmers," the spokesman added. This year, the Spartans will offer training at pools in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Mission and Vedder Crossing in an attempt to develop a truly regional team. "Through sharing and combination of pool availability, winter swimming will become available to the whole Valley." All potential swimmers, or their parents, are invited to either of the meetings for full information on the Spartan program. If unable to attend, information can be obtained from the Spartan swim club office at 858-SWIM.

The synopsis of B.C. hunting and trapping regulations for 1987-88 will shortly be available to the public at offices of the Ministry of Environment and Parks, government agents, and sporting goods stores. Environment and Parks Minister Bruce Strachan said, "I urge every hunter and trapper to obtain a copy of the synopsis and become familiar with the regulations before going into the field." He stated, "While basic regulations remain much the same from year to year, new regulations have to be introduced and old regulations must be adjusted, to reflect changing circumstances." The 1987-88 synopsis contains both hunting and trapping regulations. There will be no separate publications of the trapping regulations. As well, Limited Entry Hunting maps and information have been dropped from the synopsis this year, but are available in a separate brochure.

Important changes include: A major new "No Shooting" corridor along the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt; Numerous road restrictions in parts of Region 5 (Cariboo-Chilcotin) to prevent overharvest due to greatly increased access following salvage logging of bettle-infested forests; Also in Region 5, more liberal seasons and bag limits for mule deer, iomf 0 EC I A 0 Track hurdles 17.64, 300m hurdles 47.9; 4th: javelin 31.81m.
