The college has reached a financial agreement with the Fraser Valley College Student Society which will see the student organization providing half of the funds in this venture. Poppy Secondary in Langley; Bob Fehr and Todd Lapinsky from Abbotsford Senior Secondary and Ian Covey of Chilliwack Senior Secondary, are among those expected to attend the team's training sessions this fall. The Totem Athletic Conference consists of Vandermeulen has been named as the College's new basketball coach replacing Tim Racine, who has left the team. Vandermeulen brings to the college a great deal of playing and coaching experience in the high school ranks. He has taken high school teams to the provincial championships five times and is one of the most respected coaches in the province.

Four members of last year's basketball team, which played a series of exhibition games, will return to the Cascades this fall: 6'6" center Brad Dayton; guards Terry Sedgewick and Steve Fehr; and the team's most valuable player last season, Ron Smith. Several top high school prospects are also expected to join the club including former B.C. High School All-Stars Surinder Sarow, of Abbotsford is one of the most competitive leagues in Canada. The basketball Cascades will be playing seven home games in the Valley this year, hosting the Cariboo College Chiefs, the Malaspina Mariners, the Douglas College Firs and last year's Canadian Championship runners-up, the Vancouver College Falcons. Two other teams, the Capilano College Blues and Royal Roads Military College, round out the Cascades always read and follow label directions.

The game which was played at Rosedale ball park turned out to be an exciting, close game well played by both teams. Final score of 12-10 gave Pops the win. Wooden Shoe finished in second place and Chilliwack River Hatchery placed third. All trophy presentations were made at the dance following the tournament on Saturday. A special award was given to ICBC who managed to lose every game during regular league play and then came up with 2 wins during the wind-up tournament! For the 5th Annual Wind-Up Tournament the 16-team league was divided into three divisions and all played off for trophies, during the one day event.

A-Division winner was Boston Pizza, sponsored by Motz Industrial Saws in Langley. Second place winner in the A Division was Chwk. Datsun. Chilliwack River Hatchery won the Division followed by Iron Horse. The Gumbooters, sponsored by Wooden Shoe Pub beat Duffy's after 3 innings of overtime to win the Division.

All trophies were donated by Wayne Swityk of the Wooden Shoe Pub in Rosedale. Door prizes were donated by T-Shirt Junction, Irvin's Shop Rite and Boston Pizza in Chilliwack.
