The annual event originated as a way of fund-raising for the Royal Canadian Legion pipe band in Chilliwack (Branch 4). This year it will mark the changing of command in the pipe band from retiring band master Jim Stennett to Joe Moran.

Traditional toasting of the haggis will take place near the top of the program. Chairman for the evening, Mr. Stennett said the entertainment will include Scottish tenor Bill Miller, the dancing of Johnny McGregor and his Merry Macs with a seven piece band. Also included is the Stave Falls (British Columbia) Scottish Country Dancers who represented Canada last year at the dance finals in Scotland. Legion pipe band and dancers will also perform.

Branch 4 pipe band includes 22 members and 15 beginners who play at various local functions and in the annual Chilliwack parades. Costs for uniforms have skyrocketed during the past three or four years to about three times the replacement cost of years ago. Mr. Stennett indicated this has placed increased pressure on the Legion jand the highland night organizers to come up with needed funds. Guests of honor are expected to be the two Chilliwack area municipal mayors or their representatives, CFB Chilliwack commander Colonel Jack Crosman and Chilliwack MLA Harvey Schroeder.

Tickets can be purchased at the Chilliwack Legion office at 112 Main Street. Those planning to attend are warned that admission will be by pre-sale ticket only. Organizers plan to have two buses leaving the Main Street office for the drill hall at 6 and 6:45 p.m. Buses will then return at 12 midnight and 1 a.m. WARNING: "Nudity and B.C.
