Mrs. Stobbe was born in Neu Samara, Bogomason, Russia, August 14, 1904. She worked as a housewife at home and had spent 39 years in this area. She was a member of First Mennonite Church, Greendale, and a member of the church's ladies aid. Mrs.

Stobbe is survived by six sons, Jake, Henry, and Leonard of Sardis, Helmut of Prince George and Peter and Alvin of Campbell River; five daughters, Agatha (Mrs. Peter) Vogt of Sardis, Katherine (Mrs. Malcolm) Cleave of Abbotsford, Mary (Mrs. Jack) Nikkel of New Westminster, Margaret (Mrs. John) Letkeman of Fort St.

John and Edna (Mrs. David) Letkeman of Coquitlam; 41 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob Berg of Surrey and Henry Berg of Russia and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Stobbe of Clearbrook. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1947. GORDON ALEXANDER McARTHUR Gordon Alexander McArthur of 501 Kipp Avenue died September 5 in Chilliwack.

A private family service was held with cremation at Victory Memorial Park Crematorium, Surrey. Mr. McArthur was born in Barkerville, February 18, 1908. He worked as a miner before he retired and had lived in. Chilliwack for 11 years.

He is survived by one sister, Mary McArthur of Chilliwack and three cousins in Barkerville. CATHERINE STALKER MATHEWS Funeral service was held September 12 in the chapel of Henderson's Funeral Home for Catherine Stalker Mathews of 107-8980 Edward Street who died September 8 in Chilliwack General Hospital. Burial was at the Royal Canadian Legion Cemetery. Elder Alf Beer officiated. Mrs.

Mathews was born in Sterling, Scotland, April 29, 1898. She had been a resident of the Chilliwack area for seven years and was formerly of McGrath Road, Rosedale, where she lived for 45 years. She was a housewife. Mrs. Mathews is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Edward Aileen Mathews of Chilliwack; four granddaughters; Frances of Nanaimo, Lorna of Vancouver, and Marilyn of Chilliwack; one greatgranddaughter, Chandra Denise Mathews of Nanaimo; one sister in Whalley; one brother in Scotland and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Lyman Mathews, September 29, 1961. JOSEPH FOSTER Past Master Mount Zion Masonic Lodge and a bandsman of the Salvation Army, Joseph Foster of 7146 First Avenue, Sardis, died September 7 in Chilliwack General Hospital. He was a member of Branch No. 4, Royal Canadian Legion and the Senior Veterans Club. Mr.

Foster was born June 24, 1899 in Hamilton, Scotland. He came to Chilliwack in 1949 and had lived for the past 14 years in Sardis. Before that he lived in Victoria. He worked as a logger. Funeral service was held September 11 at the Salvation Army Citadel, with Captain Glen Patrick officiating.

Cremation was at Victory Memorial Park Crematorium, Surrey. Henderson's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Dons Wells, Bert Wells, Leonard Cartmell, Syd Padgham, Art Cartmell and Major Bill McKenzie. Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Jean (Mrs.

Lockett of Toronto, Ontario; two sons, Major George Allan of Cambridge, Ontario and Joseph Foster of Chilliwack; 12 grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren; three sisters in Scotland and one brother in Nova Scotia. GERTRUDE HARDER Gertrude Harder of No. 3 7479 Vedder Road, Sardis, died September 6 in Chilliwack General Hospital. Funeral Service was held September 11 in the United Mennonite Church, Yarrow, with Rev. Henry Claassen and Rev. P.

W. Dyck officiating. Pallbearers were Frank Froese, Frank Froese Victor Froese and Eric Froese. Mrs. Harder was born in Chortiz, Ukraine, April 14, 1899.

She had lived 29 years in this area. For a time she resided in Yarrow. She worked as a housewife. Mrs. Harder was a member of the United Mennonite Church in Yarrow.

Burial will be at Yarrow Cemetery. She is survived by two nephews, Frank Froese of Chilliwack and Victor Froese of Winnipeg, Manitoba and one sister in Germany. DELMA JOSEPHINE STEELE Funeral service was held September 8 in the chapel of Henderson's Funeral Home for Delma Josephine Steele of 7041 Chadsey Road, Sardis, who died September 5 in Chilliwack General Hospital. Rev. Michael Deck officiated at the service which was followed by cremation at Victory Memorial Park Crematorium, Surrey.

Mrs. Steele was born in Webb, Saskatchewan, June 12, 1911. She was a part owner of a lodge at Mile 392 of the Alaska a Highway, near Fort Nelson. She was a resident of Chilliwack area for two years. Mrs.

Steele is survived by her husband, Frank; two daughters, Ruby (Mrs. Horness of Dawson Creek and Mrs. Vera Earl of Sardis; eight grandchildren, seven great -grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Tibbets of Penticton. GERTRUDE F. HENRY Gertrude F.

Henry of 8-50506 Yale Road East, Rosedale, died September 5 at Chilliwack General Hospital. Cremation was at Victory Memorial Park Crematorium in Surrey. Mrs. Henry was born in London, England, August 7, 1888. She had lived for seven years in the Chilliwack area and was a retired housewife.
