8 THE CHILLIWACK PROGRESS, Mar. 2, 1966 Ramblers Drop Bonsp'iel Spoils Playoff Game Ramblers dropped the 'Ohow even oDht first playoff game to Sham rocks last week in a bantam hockey fixture in Coliseum. Ramblers jumped into a 3-0 lead before Shamrocks could get untracked. With Enger, Reichelt and Cottons scoring in that order. Shamrocks came to life and i lsj ii eta ri ca I clubmate Audrey Bowman in the final.

Burgess with Alta Gillis, Louise Clegg and Chloe Cheek, stopped Herman (Vi Stephenson, Eva Workman and Mary McCormick) for the Sears Limited award. Chilliwack's Bunny Cox-worth (Ellen Wells, Jennie Cook, Pat Harper) lost out to Haney's Cass in the fight for the Chilliwack Curling Club trophy. Some 14 Chilliwack rinks participated. Theme of the 'spiel was Indian Days and Chief Richard Malloway was invited to attend the official opening. Colorful Indian feathers were distributed to the curlers and an Indian Village scene was set up in the club lounge.

Comox, Hope, New Westminster, Vancouver North Shore Winter Club and West Vancouver Hollybum Club also sent rinks. An Island rink scored top laurels Sunday in the 11th annual ladies bonspiel here. Evelyn Stirzaker of Port Alberni, Event winner last year, emerged the only unbeaten quartet after thiee days and nights of action. Victory in the A Event was worth the Don Lange jewellers trophy. Stirzaker beat Chilliwack's Marg Kickbush in the final after scoring wins over McCormick of Vancouver Pacific, Elsie Herman (Chilliwack), and Mission's Mary Rockwell.

The big winner bested 28 other entries. The host club grabbed an even split of 16 prizes. Runner-up Kickbush turned aside Mary Cass of Haney, Low of Abbotsford, and Mickey Burgess of Chilliwack. Event (Super Valu trophy) went to Chilliwack's Murdece Pyvis. The skip had been an A Event finalist once previously.

Pyvis stopped MARG KICKBUSH was A Event runner-up in annual Chilliwack bonspiel. The skip (with prize) had mates Fairlene Gregory, Betty Elkin and Edyth Chapman in tow. On The Alleys PORT ALBERNI skip Ev Stirzaker accepts A Event trophy from 11th Chilliwack bonspiel chairman Louise Clegg. Winner had help from Sybil Magnus-son, Marj Muir and Joyce Marshall. banged in three unanswered goals to tie.

Morley Rempel put Ramblers ahead on an easy shot which was deflected into the Shamrocks net by their own player. Don Adams tied the score once again for Shamrocks and Neil Britton scored the winner, his second goal of the game. Ralph Clegg. the league's top goalie, played an outstanding game for losers. He "robbed" Scott McLellan from point blahk range, and Scott has about the hardest and most accurate shot in the loop.

Dunham was among team members from 4 Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers, representing the 2nd (British) Division of which Canada's NATO brigade forms a part. The Canadian Engineers won the 2nd Division crosscountry run earlier this year. More than 100 runners from the BAOR slogged their way through a rugged six-mile course in heavy snow and freezing rain near the fabled town of Hameln, Germany.
