12B THE CHILLIWACK PROGRESS, Wednesday, April 16, 1980 Higginson turns champion Alderman Fred Tunbridge and Harrison Hot Spring's Mayor John Allen. Dan Cramer was the youngest horse plowman and Norman Morrow the eldest. Len Rumple won the antique tractors class with Art Slootweg second. Bill Higginson of Sardis became a three time B.C. plowing champion Saturday afternoon on the fields of the Alex Charles farm in Rosedale in the 58th Chilliwack Plowing Match.

He led the field in stubble plowing on Friday and while losing to Allan Rendall in Sod Saturday, Higginson's lead was enough to secure the title. Rendall was second overall, followed by Charlie Hayton, Jim Mar (of Saanich) and Dennis Sache. Mar was the only non-Chilliwack district resident in the top five placers. Sache placed fourth in stubble but Mar overtook him in sod and then overall. Sitting out the competition was defending B.C.

and former Canadian champ Charlie Thomson. Higginson last won the title in 1976, followed by Hayton in 77 and Rendall in '78. Higginson and Rendall will compete in the national plowing final next September at MacDonald College near Montreal. Other competitions for the day ended with the following results: Norman Morrow of Agassiz won the open heavy horse event. Best going plowman was Irwin Child.

Willard. Wilder of Lynden, Washington won the American horse teams class and his team was also chosen the best groomed and decorated. Nineteen-year-old Gary Brink took the two furrows plow open tractor class and was named to represent B.C. at the nationals in the under 21 years old class. Tony DeGroot was second but was awarded a prize for the best crown in the field.

Brink received prizes for best finish in the field and best, plowed land. Henry Slootweg took the honors for the two-furrow tractor class, for entrants 18 years and under. Twelve year old Chris Hayton led the 15 years and under field (one, two or three-furrow plows) followed by Richard Terpstra. Hayton won for most points by a novice. Randy Terpstra led among entrants 18 years and under in the three-furrow tractor class.

William Baron won the three or four-furrow open tractor class. Abbotsford Mayor George Ferguson won the mayors' class followed by Chilliwack Trials ordered Rocky James Holt and his wife, Wanda Kathleen Holt, have been ordered to stand trial on charges of possession of restricted drugs for the purpose of trafficking. Rocky Holt was charged Dec. 10 last year with possession of cocaine, PCP ('angel dust') and marijuana. He and his wife were then charged on Dec.

17 with possession of PCP, cannabis resin and marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Trials were ordered on these charges at the preliminary hearing last Thursday. Antique tractor class was won by Art Slootweg with Gordon Posein second and George Byerlay third. Leo DeGroot won the two-furrow junior event while Gary Brink was second and Lydia DeGroot third. Randy Terpstra led in three-furrow with Richard Terpstra second and Tony Van Garderen third.
