8:00 p.m. Wednesday Praise Meeting. IODE Activity Stepped Up As Chapters Meet Four primary chapters were represented when the Municipal chapter, IODE, met at the home Mrs. C. Dodimead Thursday.

Hirs. D. E. MacLean was cohostess. Mrs.

W. H. Beldam reminded the members that the program for services home and abroad had increased and broadened and would require the support of all chapters. The National Korean Projects fund wili supply one ton of milk powder along with film, machines and developer previously for purchased. X-ray Last year the national services home and abroad amounted to $431,478.81, of which 16 per cent assisted the needy overseas.

Excerpts from letters expressfor layettes, knitted garments, foods, blankets and shoes, from recipients in Europe and Korea, were read by the secretary, Mrs. S. G. Rowlands. The secretary also reported the work of the National Commonwealth program had broadened.

Two doctors from India and Pakistan have completed post graduate courses at the University of Toronto under this program. National chapter has further recommended that a scholarship of $2000 be offered to a graduate student from the University of West Indies. The educational secretary's report stated that much of IODE organized work is turned toward Canadian education at all The 1956-57 winner of the memorial scholarship was enrolled in applied science at UBC. Three other winners of provincial bursaries were also enrolled at UBC. Mrs.

R. Crowley, representative to Public Health Nurses' auxiliary, reported that medical assistance to children had increased. A further donation was given from the Cec Fox Memorial fund to carry out this assistance. Mrs. P.

J. Keoughan gave the treasurer's and report of the convener the IODE Memreport, orial Hospital library. New books have been placed but books of large print are still required for Valleyhaven. This service is supplied to the patients of hospital and Valleyhaven weekly. The secretary, Mrs.

Rowlands, reported that Mrs. J. Snow and Mrs. M. Townsend had placed wreaths on the cenotaph and welcoming cards had been presented during the summer.

Mrs. C. Dodimead will be delegate to the provincial semiannual meeting to be held in Penticton, October 11. Pink And White Theme At Shower Miss Margaret Fordham and Miss Phyllis Minalko were hostesses Saturday at the home of the former's parents, 692 KeithWilson road, at a miscellaneous bridal shower honoring Miss Margaret Kirkness, whose marriage to Art Frank takes place early in October. Miss Flora Kirkness presented the bride-to-be, as well as mothers of both the bride elect and groom-elect, Mrs.

J. Kirkness and Mrs. A. Frank, with corsages. A pink and white theme in decorations was carried out, with streamers, wedding bells and flowers marking the guest of honor's chair and gifts being sented in a decorated umbrella.

A large cake, also decorated in pink and white, and presented to the bride-to-be by her sister Flora bore the words "Best Wishes Marg." Serviteurs were Miss Ruth Chadsey and Miss Norma Stadler. Guests included Mrs. J. Minalko, Mrs. F.

and Mrs. J. Barlow, Vancouver, were Sunday visitors at the home of H. Laughlin. Chilliwackians now living at Air Division Headquarters, RCAF, in France, include the former Irene Stepski and her husband, Sgt.

Herman Rempel, the former Patricia Brown and her husband, Cpl. R. E. Mitchell, and Pte. Chapman.

Christ Lutheran Church Scene Of Wedding Rev. J. G. F. Judt conducted the marriage service in Christ Lutheran church September 7, when Ann Sidonia Reichenbach, youngest daughter of Mrs.

Lydia Reichenbach, 535 Kipp avenue, exchanged vows with Earl William Ganert, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ganert, 159 Brooks avenue. Sweet peas, asters, sprigs of fern and pink and white rosettes decorated the church for the early evening wedding. Miss Frieda Meyers played the wedding music.

Given in marriage by Albert Arne, the bride wore a white satin and lace trimmed gown. Her long veil fell from a crown studded with rhinestones and she wore matching rhinestone earrings. Red roses and fern made up the bride's bouquet. Miss Shirley Thornton and Miss Alice Ganert were maid of honor and bridesmaid respectively. Ken Dargatz and Pete Epp acted as groomsmen, while Alf Prachnau and Dennis Grigg ushered.

At a reception held in the Riding club hall, about 150 guests sat down to a cold plate supper. Pink and white streamers and sprays of evergreen decorated the bridal table. Dennis Grigg proposed the toast to the bride. Serviteurs were Miss Donna Dolphin, Miss Isabell Oldham, Miss Val Thornton, Miss Joanne Swennumson Danny Arnett. Out-of-town guests included Mr.

Mrs. Elmer Martin, Lindsay and Twyla, Mr. and Mrs. fred Carlton, Vancouver; Mrs. Martin, London: the groom's grandmother, Mrs.

P. Carlton, and his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Barber and family, Abbotsford. The newlyweds are residing at 114 Tupper, following a wedding trip to Seattle and points south.

Corn Roast Fetes Couple On Departure Christian and Missionary Alliance church couple's club held a corn roast at Cultus Lake honoring Mr. and Mrs. William Dirks, who have since moved to Regina, where Mr. Dirks is attending Bible school. Musical numbers by Harvey Schroeder, William Dirks, Mrs.

Mrs. Pedersen was presented with a going-away gift of three TV cups and saucers. Mrs. Don Gleig Appointed Head 1 Jr. Auxiliary Junior Hospital auxiliary met Wednesday at the home of Mrs.

Bruce Gleig, Riverside drive. Mrs. Don Gleig was appointed president for the balance of the year, succeeding Mrs. Michael Wientjes who resigned due to illness. Mrs.

Ifor Lewis took over as first vice-resident with Mrs. Earl Henderson being appointed second vice Reports were given on Fair teas and Lions auto races, and plans were for a rummage sale to be November. Mrs. enade Ralph Norrish, equipment convener, reported the purchase of a new incubator to replace one not suitable for further use. Mrs.

Don Gleig reported on the Hospital auxiliary convention held in Vancouver in June. Mrs. Harry Elvin conducted initiation of new members, explaining purpose and constitution of the auxiliary. The initiation closed with a skit in which all new members participated. Mrs.

Ralph Norrish, Christmas card convener, distributed catalogues and cards to. team captains in preparation for sale of Christmas cards, one of the auxiliary's main projects. Refreshments were served by members of the executive. Draw was won by Mrs. H.

G. Higginson. Music Classes "Overflowing" Members of the Chilliwack branch of the B. C. Registered Music Teachers' association gathered for the first meeting of the fall season at the home of Miss Lucille Murphy.

The teachers reported all classes seem to be filled to overflowing, and the prompt return of students indicates a generally healthy eagerness for music in the district. Mrs. R. O. Stark was elected secretary -treasurer, to fill the cffice which Mrs.

J. A. Fraser found necessary to resign. Regret was expressed that Mrs. A.

Borno was leaving Chilliwack to reside in northern B.C., and also that Miss Ethel Yoder has given up her class in Chilliwack to teach in Vancouver. Miss Agnes Rinas was welcomed back to Chilliwack as resident and fulltime teacher. In the past few years she has lived in Vancouver and taught here two days a week. It was decided to sponsor the fall tour of the Young Artist series which presents outstanding musicians from the four western provinces alternately. This season two British Columbia artists are featured.

They are Valerie Lloyd, pianist, and Varick Hewitt, soprano, both of Vancouver. Both have won acclaim for fine performances. Miss Nan Densham is making preliminary arrangements. Reports Given At Henry Tryon Chapter Meeting Henry Tryon chapter, IOD: met at the home of Mrs. H.

Webb, Sardis, when Mrs. W. Beldam. treasurer reported on financial affairs and said the tag day for the "Save the Children" fund in June had been catisfactory. Mrs.

A. Unsworth made 14 calls on sick and shut-ins during the summer months. Six pairs of stockings for Korean children were completed and turned in to Mrs. H. Eyres, convener for services, home and abroad.

Mrs. J. Paget collected and forwarded two bundles of pocket novels to Canadian soldiers in Korea. Two post cards expressing thanks and appreciation for books were received. Fresh flowers were placed on the cenotaph in July by Mrs.

J. Paget and Mrs. M. Demerse. Mrs.

C. Cleave and Mrs. J. Paget looked after the giving out of books in the hospital wards for the IODE library. Plans were made to hold a rummage sale in the W.I.

hall, Chilliwack. Mrs. H. Webb served refreshments at the close of the meeting, assisted by Mrs. C.

Cleave and Mrs. F. George. cost The city's 1956 paving program a total of $32,600, it was revealed at a council meeting Monday night. A cheque this amount was authorized for Columbia Bitulithic, paving contractors.

Bills totalling $72,000 were passed for payment. Nurses Form Honor Guard For Dr. Patten Dr. Lee Alfred Patten, wellknown physician who had practiced in Chilliwack 40 years until his retirement in 1948, died Monday at his residence, 108 Nowell street south. Members of the Chilliwack branch of the Registered Nurses' association formed a guard of honor for Dr.

Patten today at Henderson's Funeral chapel. Rev. J. W. Way conducted the funeral service, which was held at 1:30 p.m.

Cremation followed. Dr. Patten was born in Trenton, February 8, 1880, but had lived in Canada 75 years. He resided here 46 years. He was a 1910 graduate of McGill University, Montreal.

In 1909 he married the former Ruth Asson at Montreal. His wife survives him. Other survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Mildred L. McIntyre, Chilliwack; two sons, Dr.

Robert William, Chilliwack, and Dr. Charles Grey, West Miami, Florida, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers at Armstrong. A member of both the Oddfellows and the Masonic Lodge, Dr. Patten was active in many community activities throughout his life.

He was an ardent golfer, tennis player and hunter and was also a keen bridge player. He took a prominent part in early theatrical productions in Chilliwack. Honorary pallbearers for Dr. Patten were Charles Skeet, Peter Brown, Fred Vaughan, Ed Mack, J. O.

M. Thackery and Dr. R. McCaffrey. Active pallbearers were Harry Berry, Jim Barritt, Councillor A.

A native of Chilliwack and a member of the pioneer Kipp family, Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Clark, died in Mission Memorial hospital recently. She was in her 66th year. Mrs. Clark, who lived in Mission City 11 years, is survived by her husband, Russell; two sons, Clifford, Nelson, and Alan, Revelstoke: two daughters, Mrs.

T. Edmondson and Mrs. D. Aspland. Agassiz; four brothers, Jim Wil fred, Archie and Walter Kipp, all of Chilliwack, and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Katherine E. Webb A native of Chilliwack, who resided in Chilliwack and Agassiz districts all her life, died September 12 at Florence Nightingale hospital, North Surrey. Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Webb, daughter of the late Mr.

and Mrs. George Gibson, Chilliwack was born here December 2. 1891. She and her husband, Ernest Judson Webb, who predeceased her August 20, operated a grocery and general store on Kelly road in Agassiz for 40 years. Funeral service was held Tuesday at All Saints Anglican church in Agassiz, with Rev.

D. F. Belway officiating. Cremation followed. Mrs.

Webb is survived by one sister and seven brothers. Mrs. Letitia May Evans Mrs. Letitia May Evans, wife of the late Robert Evans, died Thursday at Valleyhaven. Born at Nebraska April 30, 1876, she had resided in Chilliwack since 1909.

Her residence was at 135 College street. Funeral service was held Monday at Henderson's Funeral chapel, with Rev. L. M. Wenham officiating.

Burial was in the IOOF cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Lang, Douglas Peake, Harold Manuel, Cecil Munro, Henry Anderson and Wilfred Turvey. Mrs. Evans is survived by two sons, William J. and Garnet both of Chilliwack, and by two granddaughters.

She was predeceased by her husband, a building contractor, two years ago. Mrs. Elizabeth McLaughlin Burial in the Canadian Legion cemetery will follow the funeral today at 3 p.m. at Henderson's Funeral chapel for Mrs. Elizabeth McLaughlin, who died Saturday at Port Coquitlam.

Rev. J. W. Way is in charge of the service. Mrs.

McLaughlin was born December 1879, in Glasgow, Scotland. She had lived in British Columbia since 1908, residing at Ryder Lake, where she had been active in the Women's Institute. She is survived by four sons, David, Saltspring Island, Charles, 70 Mile House, John, Nanaimo, and Robert, Ryder Lake, and by four grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews in Ontario and Scotland. She was predeceased by her husband. Charles, in 1948.

Pallbearers are Jock Kerr, Ted Innis, Harold Innis, John Maddams, Leo Wright and John Coughlin. Mrs. Margaretha Enns Funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Greendale Mennonite church for Mrs. Margaretha Enns, who died Monday at her home, 627 Sumas Prairie road.

Rev. Bruno Enns will officiate, assisted by Rev. Abram Warkentine. Burial will be in Greendale cemetery. Mrs.

Enns was born in South Russia, February 10. 1866. She was married in 1888 in Russia to Jacob Enns, who predeceased her. She lived in Greendale 22 years. Mrs.

Enns is survived by six sons, David and Abram, Russia and Jacob, Julius, John and George, Greendale; three daughters, Mrs. John Sawatsky and Mrs. Henry Krahn, Greendale and Mrs. Peter Bruck, Manitoba; two brothers, Abe Schellenberg, Saskatchewan and Julius Schellenberg, Kelowna, 35 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be six of her grandsons Jacob Enns, Peter Enns, Ted Enns, Johnny Enns, Henry Krahn and Ed Krahn.

Chilliwack Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Maria Kormendy Requiem mass will be celebrat ed Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church for Mrs.

Maria Catherina Kormendy, who died Tuesday at Chilliwack General hospital. Rev. G. McKinnon will be celebrant and burial will be in the IOOF cemetery. Mrs.

Kormendy, who is survived by her husband, Edward, resided at 785 Trans Canada highway east, Rosedale. She was born February 15, 1889 at Limbey, Holland, and had lived in this district since 1938. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. R. Boule and Mrs.

E. Ziegler, Rosedale; two sons, Rosedale and Leo, Grants Pass, one sister and two brothers in Holland, and 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Alex in 1950. Pallbearers will be G. Booth, O.

Mauch, F. Linkletter, A. Schuttkaker, R. Simoens and W. Harmond.

An active member of First Baptist church who had resided in Chilliwack district for 50 years, Mrs. Elmina Cusack, died Monday at Chilliwack General hospital. Her residence was at 513 Munroe street. Wife of the late U. B.

Cusack, who died in 1947, Mrs. Cusack is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. R. Houston, Vancouver; six sons, Floyd D.

and Sipprell Chilliwack, Elmer Quesnel, James Terrace, and Dr. Wilbur Kamloops, 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral service was conducted Wednesday at Henderson's Funeral chapel by Rev. L. M.

Marlene Ross CHS Graduate Wins Bursary At Edmonton Marlene Ross, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Ross, 2421 36th avenue, Calgary, formerly of Camp Chilliwack, has won the University Alberta poliomyebursary.

Marlene, who graduated from Chilliwack Senior High school in 1955, moved to Calgary where she completed grade 13. Marlene plans to study physiotherapy at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Rosalind Barbara Docken, who died at her residence in Nanaimo Friday, was held Wednesday at Henderson's Funeral chapel in Chilliwack. Born in Lorlie, August 19, 1914, Mrs. Docken lived three years in Sardis before moving to Nanaimo two years ago. Her husband, Eddy, whom she married at Melville, in 1942, survives her. Other survivors are her mother, Mrs.

Siemens, a retired farmer, was born in Morris, Manitoba, May 20, 1882 and lived in the Chilliwack district for the past 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Helena; six daughters, Mrs. I. Neufeld, Abbotsford, Mrs. J.

Enns, Vancouver, Mrs. Ed. Enns, Herbert, Mrs. Ab Regier, Chilliwack, Mrs. Clarence Trott, Chilliwack and Mrs.

Roy Sjoberg, Regina; a brother, David, Steinbach, Man. and 20 grandchildren. Mrs. Helen Penner Rev. Jacob Thiessen will conduct funeral service for a former resident of Unsworth road, Sardis, who died in Vancouver General hospital Monday.

Mrs. Penner was born in South Russia October 20, 1934 and lived in Vancouver. She was married October 20, 1955. Surviving are her husband, Peter Penner, Vancouver; her mother, Mrs. Margaretha Nickel; a brother, Peter, and a sister Margaretha all of Vancouver, as well as a number of uncles and aunts.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mennonite Brethren church 43rd avenue and Prince Edward street, Vancouver. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery, Vancouver. Pallbearers will be Frank Hamm, Walter Hamm, Abram Toews, Peter Balzer, Harry Vogt and John Derksen. Peak Honors WOl Rideout An 8029-foot peak in the HopePrinceton highway area, eight miles south of the 14 Mile Ranch, has been named Mount Rideout in memory of W01 Lorne Rideout, RCAF.
