Tuesdays and Fridays. When Alderman Edith Grainger visited the Chilliwack Women's Centre on Friday, it gave local women the chance to find out how a woman handles the council job and what it entails. Visitors were encouraged to ask questions in an informal atmosphere, without making an appointment or feeling that their questions or concerns were insignificant or silly, said Sandy Ellis, co-ordinator. Centre plans to have guest speakers who control the various agencies through which women deal with on a day-to-day basis. Cottonwood Super-Valu manager Al Meucci will be there June 22, for women who wonder about price policies and how a supermarket is run, she said.

Nurses make up a majority of the health care force, but are prevented from exercising their full potential as members of the health team. The "oppressed majority" was one of the subjects discussed at the annual meeting of the Registered Nurses' Association of B.C. in Vancouver recently. Glenda Porter gave a report of the speech by Dr. Elvi Whit-taker, UBC associate professor of anthropology, to the meeting of the Chilliwack chaper of the Registered Nurses' Association.

Concept examined the dehumanization process, where uniforms allow "sameness" and nurses are not recognized as individuals. Cast situation was discussed in terms of doctor-nurse games. Cultural themes that add to oppression are those nurses who support the images they present, wealth, stereotyped images and child rearing techniques, believes Dr. Whittaker. Audience was mixed in their reaction with an equal number for and against, reported Mrs.

Porter. Elections were held at the meeting and the new president is Louise Remple, first vice-pres. is Audrey Smith; second, Pat Johnston; treasurer, Ena Vermerres; recording secretary, Sharon Adams and corresponding secretary is Iva Hancock.
