I 2A THE CHILLIWACK PROGRESS, Wednesday, July 9, 1975 ituaries Oh DDGjj (Hip A. H. JESPERSON Born in Chilliwack on November 6, 1891, and a resident here all his life, Arthur Hunter Jesperson died July 5 in the extended care unit of MSA Hospital, Abbotsford. Rev. Weldon Holland officiated at the LOW, LOW PRICE ALL PRICES EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, JULY 9th TO 12th SALES IN RETAIL QUANTITIES ONLY Employment picture in the Chilliwack area is getting brighter, according to Canada Manpower office manager Joe Acheson.

June employment figures show a general upswing in employment in this area. During June there were about 2,000 people registered and looking for work in the Chilliwack area. Mr. Acheson stressed this is only a ballpark figure and includes between 500 and 600 students. Orders for workers are starting to pick up, he said, with the construction field in good shape.

Loggers are still on the job so they are not looking for other positions right now. Largest number of people looking for work appears to be in the 18 to 25 year age bracket, he said. There is a shortage of union carpenters and Mr. Acheson attributed it to construction at the shopping centre which is employ ing a large number of people in that field. One Chilliwack Manpower office counsellor has been sent to Abbotsford temporarily to help with the interviewing for the new large shopping complex being built there.

Employment generally is looking up. Mr. Acheson noted the June figure is in line with the total during the same period last year. Ideally Manpower would like to knock the total number of people looking for work down to about 800. It can never get lower than that, he said, because of the natural turnover of staff in most jobs.

People seem to be more willing to work harvesting crops this, season. Mr. Acheson noted the hop yards and canneries have all the employees they need and there is not a large shortage of berry pickers. 1 I CANADAGRADE GOV'T INSPECTED PRIME RIB ROAST Dyck, Clearbrook; two sisters, Mrs. F.
