United Ties Bradner Hosts Chilliwack United started to lose steam in the second half of Sunday's game against the Bradner Royals in Bradner, but Laszlo Kocsis' penalty kick from 12 yards was enough to force a 1-1 draw on the host team.

United played good soccer in the first half, reports manager Cec Malloway, but only the Royals inexperience prevented the rug from being pulled on the out of shape Chilliwack squad in the second half, he said. Norm Chambers and Zeke Lau provided excellent goal tending during the game for Chilliwack. Main trouble seems to lie with the forward line, according to Mal-' loway. middle of the season. All in all from this writer's point of view, Chilliwack should have a competitive club to start the season. League statistician Ray Glanville released the finalized league schedule last week for the 1969 70 Western Hockey League season. Please note that the first game for Chilliwack 3-Field is against Shmyr Flyers, not Hygrade Heaters as mentioned in an earlier write-up. There will be 15 home games for Chilliwack fans plus Jubilee Cup Night on November 22.

Each team will play a 30 game schedule over the route, six games against each club in the league. With Surrey Warriors also having their home games on Saturday night, fans will have their Saturday night ritual broken three times this season as the local club visits the Warriors on their home ground. BLUELINE BANTER: Surrey Warriors got off on the winning side of the score-sheet by beating the New Westminster Junior Royals 6-4 in an exhibition game last Sunday Two more goaltenders are expected in the 3-Field workout later this week, bringing the total to four trying for that number 1 position inn- Vvr; mm By DON McFARLAND Chilliwack 3-Field Hockey Club moved from Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack gym, where they have been having conditioning workouts for the past two weeks, to the Chilliwack Coliseum to start ice workouts prior to the October 11 start of the Western Amateur Hockey League season. The ice workouts started on Monday night and will continue nightly until October 9. General Manager John Adams has issued an invitation to anyone interested in trying out for the club at 8:30 p.m.

For information regarding the club, interested persons may phone John at 858-6071 or coach Ross Roen-spiess at 858-6661. About 25 players hit the ice on Monday night for the first light workout of the season. Coach Roenspiess said he is giving everyone a fair chance to prove themselves before he starts cutting his roster down to a workable size. He believes he will cut down to about 20 players by this weekend and will start working out his lines during the first part of next week. Teaching fundamentals of the game is his main concern for this first week.

He believes this has been the ingredient missing, especially in the younger players moving up over the past couple of seasons. The coach's main desire this year is to have a strong defensive club. He stated earlier this week that "my goaltenders are going to see a lot less rubber this year than they have been accustomed to in other seasons." 3-Field cage watchers in the past have had to stop an average of 30 to 40 shots per game, which is ridiculous according to Coach Roenspiess. He does not expect miracles in the early part of the season, but feels this average will be cut drastically by the Standard Equipment: Too much downtime?
