THE CHILLIWACK PROGRESS, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1970 7B Rites take place in. Chilliwack United Couple celebrate 50th anniversary .7 i i white ruffled lace embroidered with pink posies. Their headpieces were crownless little poke bonnets of the same material with the lace motif repeated. Several strands of pink ribbon hung down the back.

They carried nosegays of pink daisies, heather and ivy. Bill Day was best man and brothers of the groom, Walter and Peter Humphreys, acted as ushers. Reception was held at The Rancho, Abbotsford, where Wally Howie gave the toast to the bride and Ron Edwards, the bride's brother, was master of ceremonies. Pink and green motifs were used to decorate the bridal table. A three-tiered wedding cake, made by the bride's mother, was trimmed with orange flowers and topped with two doves.

Fred Toop, grandfather of the bride, said grace on his 84th birthday. Pouring tea were Mrs. Lloyd Brooks, the bride's maternal aunt and godmother, and Mrs. Wallie Howie. Following a trip to San Diego, California, bride and groom will reside in Chilliwack United Church was the setting for an afternoon wedding August 29 when Sharie Edwards and John Walter Humphreys were married in a double-ring ceremony by Rev.

R. W. Bray. Bride is younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Roy Edwards, Sardis, and groom is eldest son of Sergeant and Mrs. Peter Humphreys of Chilliwack. Escorted by her father, bride wore a floor length gown of polyester crepe with empire waist, mandarin collar and lily point sleeves. Her shoulder length veil was studded with pearls and was held in place by a floral arrangement of bell flowers and pearls. Pale pink roses, white stephanotis, and cascading ivy formed the bridal bouquet.

Attending the bride were Nancy Brooks as maid of honor, Mrs. Bruce Morrison, matron of honor and Sheila Spencer, bridesmaid. They wore identical short dresses of sheer green satin striped voile in antique style with high waist and neck and puffed elbow length sleeves. They were trimmed around the waist and neckline with Active members of Victoria Avenue Baptist Church, Mr. and Mrs.

Emil Schiwy were the guests of honor at a special celebration held there on August 23 to commemorate their 50th wedding, anniversary. Over 100 guests attended the event, some coming from Vancouver and Kelowna. A sister of Mrs. Schiwy was present from Lethbridge. Many gifts were received from members of the family, the congregation and ladies' circle of the church, and from individual friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Schiwy were married in Russia August 23, 1920, and lived there until 1930 when they moved to Germany. Though it was their wish to emigrate to Canada they were unable to do so and passed through many tribulations in the second World War. On several occasions the father and older son were separated from the rest of the family and neither group knew the whereabouts of the other.

They came to Canada in 1948 and moved immediately to Chilliwack where they took out Canadian citizenship. They have lived in the valley for 22 years Both take part in the various activities of their church. Mrs. Schiwy is a valued member of the Women's Missionary Union where she is very handy with scissors and sewing machine. Mr.

and Mrs. Schiwy had a family of six. Three of their children survive. They are William of Surrey; Henry of Chilliwack; and Mrs. K.

(Irma) Dreger of Vancouver. A varied program of music and recitation added enjoyment to the evening. Choir of the church sang two numbers. Three ladies of the Missionary recited special poems. Another group sang "A Song of 50 Years." Two granddaughters Marlene and Nellie sang a duet.

Marlene played a piano solo. The oldest son of the family spoke, recalling experiences of their early life in Russia, Germany and Canada. Rev. R. Jaster spoke briefly making his remarks relative to the golden wedding of the guests.

At the reception held in Foresters' Hall, Sardis, David Ovans was master of ceremonies. Toast was proposed by Ben Mainer. Mike Harris and Gracie Dee from Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated a few songs of their own to bride and groom. Bridal table was decorated with three flower arrangements flanked by three candles on either side. The three tier wedding cake made by the groom's father was on a separate table covered by a cloth which the groom's grandmother had made from the cord of a parachute.

Flower decorations in church and hall were done by Mrs. Clyde Johnson. Mrs. Ralph La Bounty made the dresses of the bridesmaids. Following a honeymoon to Penticton bride and groom will reside in Chilliwack.

Father and mother of the bride gave her away. She chose a floor length wedding gown of satin trimmed with lace with long lily point lace sleeves. Her short veil was held with a headpiece of three lily flowers. She carried a bouquet of three orchids and white roses with ferns tied with white ribbon. Maid of honor Patricia La Bounty wore a floor length dress of a soft peach color with empire waist and bodice and sleeves of lace.

Ricky Mammel was senior bridesmaid and sisters of the bride and groom, Tiny den Harder and Luella Penner were the junior bridesmaids. Their dresses were of coral sheer over taffeta, floor length with empire waists. White flower trimmings enhance the neck and bodice. Their flowers were tropicana roses and white carnations arranged in white lace. Flower girl Toni Atkins wore a short white dress with pink lace down the front and around neck and sleeves.

She carried a basket of flowers to match those of the other attendants. Ring bearer Terry Bluhm of Manitoba wore a black tuxedo. Ernst Schepanowsky was best man and ushers were Larry Ladoux, Ken Wall and Wayne La Bounty.
