Shaw Gives Report to Local Council of Women The regular meeting of the Local Council of Women was held in the City hall Monday when the speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. J. Fletcher Shaw, delegate to the provincial meeting in Victoria, who gave a comprehensive report of the conference. Resolutions dealt with are published elsewhere in the pa pel. The president asked for a full report of the year's activities from each of the affiliated societies for the annual meeting, The year books were distributed also several pamphlets from National conveners.

The nomination committee presented this slate of officers for the year: Mrs. J. F. Shaw, president; Mrs. G.

Brown, first vice president; Mrs. E. France, second vice president; Mrs. A. Bowlby, third vice president; Mrs.

R. G. Ferguson, corresponding secretary; Mrs. H. Young, recording secretary, and Mrs.

L. O. McCarter, treasurer. L.O.B.A. Bazaar Well Patronized A successful tea and bazaar was held in the L.

O. B. A. lodge room Saturday afternoon under the aus auspices of the L. O.

B. A. Mrs. Emma Brett, worthy mistress, officially opened the bazaar. Mrs.

K. McFaul, Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. E. Brett were in charge of tea arrangements; Mrs.

R. J. Henderson and Mrs. V. L.

Gerty, fancywork; Mrs. M. Munson and Mrs. A. Grafton, home cooking; Mrs.

I. Good and Mrs. S. Tanna hill, candy; Mrs. J.

Adams and Mrs. Griffiths, fishpond, and Mrs. N. MacLeod, comforter raffle. The winner of the comforter was Miss Le Feuvre, Vancouver, with ticket number 3.

Robert Brun ning. Mrs. J. Northcote convened arrangements for the doll. In the drawing for the Christ Every Local Council in the province was represented at the meeting Thursday when resolutions were passed concerning improvement of conditions for women prisoners at Oakalla, rehabilitation of Jews exiled from Germany, the extension of traveling mental clinics in the province, forestry conservation, low rental housing, British immigration, free textbooks 1 and tightening of traffic regulations.

Mrs. C. Grossman, provincial secretary treasurer, and Mrs. J. Fletcher Shaw, first vice president of the Chilliwack Local Council, were present.

The latter submitted a report of the year's activities of Chilliwack Local Council to the meeting Thursday. The main request was for improvement of the women's quarters at Oakalla prison farm which were characterized as "hopelessly inadequate, overcrowded and unsanitary and do not permit of a reformatory program enabling the women to take their place in normal society upon their release." The delegation was promised that work would start immediately on building a women's prison which would conform with modern pen ological requirements.
