He was a veteran of the Riel rebellion of 1885. In 1906 he came to Brit ish Columbia and started farming at Chilliwack, which he continued until the time of his retirement in 1II1G. He had lived In Vancouver for the past two years. Mrs. Braithwaite was a former member of the Chilliwack Municipal Council.

Clam Jillis and family and died at his tome in Agassiz Thursday, March He was tho second youngest ot thirteen children of Archibald and Catherine Gillis, and was one of the seven alive previous to his death. He was born on July 18, 1865 ut itrathalban. Hose Valley, Prince Edward Island. Remaining on the farm till IS years of age he went Minnesota. In December of the following year, 1SS4, lie turned his attentions to the West and came to British Columbia.

Here he re mained for a year as a teaming con ractor. The next year ho went to the Cariboo where he remained for twenty one years and was one who blazed the trail of the Cariboo. In lSflS he married Clara Collings worth at Ashcrot't. Durinjr '9S anrt'DH he continued as an extra stage Iriver. In the latter part of '99 he built a butcher shop.

Later, selling nut. he took a position in the for warding department of Harvey, Bail ey, Limited, Ashcroft and then turned his attention to the Power and Electric Company. In December, 190(5 he moved to Agassiz where he 'bought the Aber deen Hotel, later changing It to the Agassiz Hotel. While at Agassiz he took a great Interest In current events and local activities of the community. He took a keen interest In the athletics of the rising generation and was an enthnsiastic baseball fan.

He was an active Conservative throughout his residence in B. C. His two sons, John and Clarence, who attend the North Pacific Dental College In Portland and High School In Seattle were able to be at his death bed with their mother and sister, Clara. Among the many floral tributes from numerous friends wreaths were received from the Methodist church congregation, the Sir James Dongas Chapter of the I. O.

D. the Acassiz High and Central schools and the Senior and Intermediate Baseball club's. Before his death he named Messrs. J. Mc.Rae.

M.P.P., and Harry Fooks to take charge of his funeral. As the pall hearers he named Messrs. A. Greyell, A. J.

McPher son. C. Guild, G. Ogilvie. E.

Rouselle (very ill) replaced by D. McTavish. Mrs. A. Horwell sang his favorite hymn "Only an Armour Bearer" as requested bv him before hi death.

The Rev. Mr. Cecil Lancaster conducted the funeral services at his residence and at the Methodist church. To mourn bis loss he leaves a widow, Clara, two sons, John and Clarence, and a daughter, Clara. He also leaves four sisters, Margaret Oillis, of Rose Valley, Mrs.

Annie Cook of Charlottetown, Prince Ed w.rd Island; Mrs. Christy Shipley of Boston, Mrs. Flora Turnbull of Sykomkish, Washington, who at tended his funeral, and two brothers, Hujrh and Kenneth of Rose Valley, Prince Edward Island. P. 13.
