C. J. Hatch, proprietor of the Commercial 'Hotel, has leased the upper flat of the Barrett Banford block, on the corner of Westminster and Xowell streets, and will use it as an annex to the hotel. An outside stairway and entrance to the flat has been Guilt. J.

The roller skating rink opened on Friday evening after being closed for a month, owing to a quarantine for smallpox.

Henderson intends building a fine residence on it this spring. Mr. and Mrs. George Belrose Lakevlew Farm, Majuba HH1, celebrated the fortieth anniversary of their marriage on Monday, the 27th wit. A goodly portion of Mr.

and Mrs. Belrose's married life have been spent In this valley. The date of the settlement of S. A. Caw'ey, M.P.P., In this valley should have read 1878 instead of 1888 as stated in last weelc's issue.

Mr. Cawley is one of the old timers of the valley and has had a very large share in the work of its improvement. A. J. Robertson, of the Princess street Machine Works, has secured the exclusive agency for the sale of the Everltt Motor Car, manufactured by the Tudhope Company, of Orlllla, Ont.

He expects a car load of the machines to be in Chtlliwack In a few days. Norman Richardson, Fairfield, has received word of the sudden death of a brother in on Tyne, England. This is the second bereavement for Mr. Richardson within a couple of months, the other being the death of his father, a prominent grain merchant In Newcastle. The moving picture show, which has been closed for a month on account of the embargo placed on places of public assembly to prevent the spread of an epidemic of smallpox, has been lifted and was again opened to the public on Friday evening.

The loss to Messrs. McManus and White, the managers of the ineatre, has been considerable since the closing of the Lyric, and the general public are in sympathy with them in their work of trying to give to the citizens a good olean show at a price within the reach of all pockets. Owing to the watchfulness of Deputy Game Warden A. P. Cummins, and the attention given the pheasants daring the months when the snow covered the ground, it is expected that the game birds of the valley will come out in good shape this spring and be strong for the breeding season.

Had it not been for the purchase of large quantities of grain and its distribution throughout the valley and the care and attention given by many of the farmers In the valley, there would be very few pheasants for next season's shooting. A little expense In the purchase of grain at a time when it was badly needed has saved the Provincial Game Department a good deal of money and the work and worry of several years. J. HOWE BENT H. T.
